Biawak in kitchen

Today we had an unexpected visitor in our house: meet Mr. Biawak (monitor lizard?).

This fellow was in our house kitchen searching for food when I surprised it while it was foraging in the rubbish bin. I didn't see it at first, but it made a lot of noise when it panicked when I entered the kitchen and tried running away from me. Unfortunately there was a wall in the way, so the stupid biawak was scratching the walls trying to get away from this "monster".

By the time I manage to grab my camera and took some pictures, it was hiding underneath the place where we dry the pots and pans. If you look at the picture, there is a small patch of something in front of the lizard. I suspect the thing vomited when it panicked, because the kitchen started smelling funny after that. The smell was of something rotting, or faeces (yuck!!!). I was trying not to breath while I was shooting and trying to chase it out of the hiding place.

We finally chased it out using a PVC pipe and a broom, and it scurried out of the open kitchen door back into the back garden. We suspected it came in through the front door of the house, since that was the only one open at the time. We also had to mop up the whole place, because we didn't know where the lizard stepped...

Canon 400D

Ah, today is the day I finally got enough guts to go buy the camera that I've been drooling about since its earlier models came out: the Canon EOS 400D Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera.

Went to Fotomat at CPS ground floor to play around with the camera before making my final decision, but, argh, what the hell, might as well buy from these fellows since they have an offer with another lens attached.

OK, the whole shebang is as follows:

  • Canon 400D body

  • 18-55mm kit lens

  • 55-200 mm telephoto lens

  • Keep brand UV filters for each lens (so now I have 2 filters)

  • LCD screen protector

  • 2GB Kingston CF card

  • Camera bag

  • err, Rm2 parking fee?

So total damage was around RM4100+

The guy who attended to me did show me a Tamron 18-200mm wide to telephoto lens, but the lens did not produce pictures as sharp as the Canon lenses, plus if I took that Tamron lens instead of the 2 lenses I have now, the whole package would come to around RM4300 or more.

When it came to selecting a bag to keep all my goodies, he first showed me a black one with beige trimmings, but after prompting he agreed to exchange it with a fully black one. He later confided with me that the bag with beige trimmings was quite unsellable, heh heh, since everyone preferred the full black experience. Bwahahaha!

P.S. Looks like I was too late to go to the ClickStartPlay get-together, since it was at around 2 something, and I was still at work... Oh well, there's always a next time.

Tree in wire

I was wondering when is city hall gonna clean up the rest of the tree that is still stuck in the telephone wires in my housing estate. It has been 2 months since I took this photo, and the stupid thing is still hanging up there!

Cicak on table

My house has wildlife inside as well as outside the house. Case in point:

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

This little fella usually haunts the underside of the lazy susan serving tray on my dinner table. It usually grabs insects and breadcrumbs when we're not looking,

Today, it must have been extra hungry, or my mom's chicken was extra tasty, because it was bold enough to come out while we were still eating to try and steal some of the chicken bones under our plates! It did this a few times, that's the reason I was able to capture it on camera getting ready for another raid.
